School Innovation Development Project (SIDP)

The School Innovation Development Project (SIDP) is an initiative by EDII-TN in collaboration with Tamil Nadu’s School Education Department and UNICEF, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among government and government-aided students (Grades 6-12) in Tamil Nadu.

Launched by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2022 at Madurai.

Objectives of SIDP

  • Introduce students to the innovation cycle and encourage entrepreneurship.
  • Inspire students to solve local/global problems using design thinking and develop leadership skills.
  • Train teachers as mentors for fostering innovation in schools.

Awards & Recognition:

  • Top 10 teams: ₹1,00,000 each.
  • Next 30 teams: ₹25,000 each

Phases of SIDP 3.0 (2024-25)

  • Teacher Registration & Training (UPSHIFT modules).
  • Student Team Creation and Course Completion.
  • Idea Submission and Evaluation (by teachers & experts).
  • District Boot Camp for prototype development.
  • Final Pitch at the state level.
  • Demo Day/Award Ceremony: MSME Minister to distribute prizes.

Key Roles

  • Master Trainers: Conduct teacher training, idea evaluation, and prototype guidance.
  • Mentors: Support students in ideation, prototype building, and presentations.
  • Jury: Evaluate ideas based on creativity, feasibility, and market potential.
  • District Coordinators: Manage project implementation at the district level.

Registration & Courses

  • Eligibility: Students (Grades 6-12) from Tamil Nadu government schools.
  • Portal: UPSHIFT for free registration and e-learning modules.
  • Idea Submission: Approved by school heads and guide teachers.

Events

  • Boot Camp: Hands-on training in design thinking and business modeling.
  • Final Pitch: Top 40 teams present; awards distributed.
  • Demo Day: Recognizes and rewards winners with MSME Minister’s presence.
