Any substance which is discarded after primary use or it is worthless of defective and of no use are all known as Waste.
Waste is generated by all either at home or street or industry.
Waste can happen even before usage at some time, can happen after use and during the process time itself.
Household trash is a form of Municipal Solid Waste and Sewage is a form of Waste Water. Biological disposals from hospitals are hazardous waste.
Industrial waste included unused raw material, consumed oil, production waste, rejected product etc.,
Some products after use also produce certain waste.
Waste creates hazardous issue, creates pollution which can spread disease
Different Forms of Waste
Waste that can be directly reused
Waste which can be used as input to some other product producing
Waste that can be reprocessed and reused
Waste which can’t be reused
Need to study on Waste and reuse it
To reduce accumulation which at one point of time goes out of control to manage
To reduce pollution and disease prone waste
To keep the environment clean for healthy living
To generate revenue from waste
Waste as Wealth
Various components of waste have an economic value and can be recovered, reused or recycled cost effectively.
Currently, the informal sector picks up part of the resources from the streets and bins to earn their living.
A sizeable portion of organic waste as well as recyclable material goes to landfills untreated.
It would be prudent to make efforts to motivate the waste generators to reduce generation in the first place.
Second, reuse the waste to the extent possible, guide and enable industry and commerce to enhance recovery of materials and intermediates during manufacturing.
Promote segregation of recyclables at source and re-use the material in remanufacturing of products and intermediates, transitioning towards achieving the goal of optimum utilisation of recyclable material.
Biodegradable waste has a good potential for generating biogas, which can serve as fuel, can also be converted to energy as well as to compost which can improve soil health and lead to increased agriculture production.
Projects for MSMEs – Sample :
Reprocessing of plastic waste to produce granules
Reproduction of metal from disposed metal products
Case study – Develop saleable products in the form of compost, handmade paper products -
