Manufacturing Incubator Brief
EDII for the first time has initiated funding of leveraging S&T based enterprise development. The Manufacturing incubator scheme of EDII was launched in April 2017. The aim of the program is to establish low cost incubators aimed at manufacturing by leveraging the expertise, equipment and laboratories available in the colleges/universities and institutions in the state of Tamil Nadu. The following priority sectors was targeted-Automobile & Sustainable Transportation Technologies, Biotechnology, Rural innovation, Communication technology (publishing, printing, media, design etc), Medical devices & implants, Nanotechnology, Water & Environmental Technologies, Smart cities Technologies, Smart/Advanced manufacturing Technologies, Life Sciences, Industrial IOT, Renewable Energy, Organic agro-processing Technologies.
All guidelines and administrative processes were worked out for initiating this major activity.
Two rounds of call were announced. Applications received were screened by initial screening, short-listing through technical presentation followed by site-visit to the institutes. Presentation was taken by a committee comprising of various administrative departments of the state- planning, technical education, scientist, academic experts and successful entrepreneurs. The site-visit team was constituted comprising lead technical expert (renowned scientist in the area), incubation expert (CEO of leading incubation center) and government representatives.
Based on competitive criteria adopted, five institutions of excellence in on-going R&D programs have been chosen for support the idea is to enable catalyzing R&D strength into enterprise development.
